Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A blue and gold dashiki robe worn by Dr. Baba Chuck Davis. The robe is constructed from royal blue cotton, heavily decorated with gold embroidery on the front and back. The robe is a large rectangle of fabric that has been folded over to make arm holes and stitched closed near the bottom left and right edges. The left and right edges of the robe are selvage edges. The fold at the top of the robe has an asymmetrical V-neck cut out of the front. The neckline is heavily embroidered with a gold scrolling pattern. The same scrolling pattern outlines a rectangle over the proper left chest and an irregularly shaped pentagon below. Inside both shapes is a gold filigree oval with an intricate knot at the center. The oval is embellished on the top and bottom with three (3) circular swirls. There is an identical oval pattern, unframed, over the proper right breast.
