Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A cream and blue dashiki robe worn by Dr. Baba Chuck Davis. The robe is constructed from cream, synthetic, brocade fabric heavily decorated with royal blue and white embroidery at the neckline, front and back. The robe is a large rectangle of fabric that has been folded over to make arm holes and stitched closed near the bottom left and right edges. The left and right edges of the robe are selvage edges. The fold at the top of the robe has an asymmetrical V-neck cut out of the front. The neckline is heavily embroidered on both sides by bands of cross-hatching framed by two (2) bands of circular swirls. On the proper right side of the V-neck is a triangular field of alternating blue straight and wavy lines. Below the neckline is a large rectangular patch outlined with three (3) bands of circular swirls and an outer band of a repeating scroll pattern.
