Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A mixed media artwork with acrylic paint, collaged paper and photographs on a wood panel. The collaged historical images, patterns, and foliage elements are arranged in a central, circular design against a striated background with horizontal bands of color (grey, yellow, white, pink, gold, turquoise, purple, blue, and red). A geometric design of fabric squares and triangles in muted earth tones runs across the center with pyramids at top and bottom with a narrow pillar stretching in between. Surrounding the pillar at the very center is an abstract blue globe with the continents represented by magazine cut-outs and light green painted shapes. At right, one of the cut-outs has the printed text [AFRICA] and at left [SLAVE TRADE].
