Black-and-white silver gelatin photographic print of jeweler Art Smith showing his Ellington necklace to an unidentified model. Captured outside near the the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts during the 1974 annual summer session, the two sit on rocks. The unidentified model sits on the left, wearing Smith’s Galaxy piece around her neck with a light color shirt and jeans. The necklace has multiple short, curved pieces holding small metal spheres. Smith wears a dark color coat and pants. He leans to his proper right as he holds up the top of the Ellington necklace with his proper left hand and stabilized it by holding onto the bottom pendant with his proper right hand. The necklace, named after Ruth Ellington, sister of jazz musician Duke Ellington, is comprised of three flat, abstract shaped elements, each with three bezel set stones. Behind them are trees. There are no inscriptions on the front or back of the photograph.
