Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

Digital image scanned from a 35mm black and white negative of artist Twins Seven Seven modeling a necklace by Joyce J. Scott outside the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts during the 1974 annual summer session. Twins Seven Seven, who was a graphics instructor that summer, is captured from the waist up. With his head turned slightly to the right, he looks directly into the camera. The small incisions made by a babalawo during his childhood are visible on his face. Scott’s necklace hangs over Twins Seven Seven’s bare chest. It has two arm-shaped pieces at the top, connected by a star-shaped pendant. Additional beads hands from the star-shape, including a small hand-shaped piece and a large, circular medallion before terminating in an abstract human figure pendant.
