This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A framed, large-scale work in ink, oil pastels, charcoal, and acrylic paint on hand-cut paper. The abstract work is primarily in shades of brown and black and depicts faces and wings appearing and receding into a field of organically undulating lines resembling flames or waves. The lines are primarily black, with some burgundy throughout and light blue at center. Three larger faces appear in the top center; the middle face has trails of burgundy color flowing from the eyes and mouth. Another face appears at the bottom center, at the head of a long, serpent-like creature. The creature has black wings at either side of the face, and two other pairs of black wings along the sinuous body, which curves around the bottom half of the paper with the tail extending into the top left. Surrounding the creature are black stars.
