This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A colorful silkscreen and oil pastel work by Glenn Ligon from his Coloring series. Underlying the work is the screen printed black outline of a scene from a children's coloring book depicting Harriet Tubman holding a rifle and leading a group of enslaved people out of bondage under a crescent moon. Tubman also appears in the lower right corner, where she is depicted from the shoulders up. Here, the screenprint outline of her features has been colored in with oil pastels: her dress is black, her face is dark brown, and her lips are red. Radiating out from her portrait are concentric rings of color made using short, linear strokes in oil pastel in shades of blue, green, purple, yellow, red, and pink. Along the top edge of the canvas is the inscription: [HARRIET TUBMAN ( Vers 2 ) #2 FOR JUSTICE BROWN JACKSON WITH ADMIRATION GLENN LIGON] and the artist's signature [GLENN LIGON 2024].
