Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A color digital photograph capturing an unidentified man seated on a metal chair at the Texana Community Development Center and playing a small string instrument. He is wearing camouflage pants and a black t-shirt. The man’s proper left profile is captured as he faces to the left, a strap around his proper left shoulder to keep the instrument in place. The instrument is possibly a mountain dulcimer or mandolin, with only the head, tuning pegs, and fretboard visible from this angle. On the other side of the musician is a table with a red tablecloth. On top are three, triangular wooden cases holding U.S. military burial flags. The cases are surrounded by framed photographs of military service members. On the wall above is a sign with the American flag on the left and blue text reading [OUR ROOTS / RUN DEEP] on the right.
