Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A gold jacquard caftan designed by Dapper Dan for André Leon Talley. The metallic gold caftan features a circular, bronze-colored floral pattern throughout. Each circle has petal-like edges and a raised leaf and petal design at center. The caftan has a round neck, split at the front center into a short, narrow V-neck, and bat-wing sleeves. Both sleeves and neck are trimmed in metallic bronze. The front hemline, which is slightly shorter than the back, is trimmed in fabric patterned in the reverse of the main pattern. This pattern is bronze all over, with a pattern of gold circles forming the floral leaf/petal shape in the center negative space. The back of the caftan also uses this reverse pattern fabric. There is a center seam running the length of both the front and the back.
