Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

This is the copper and brass "Bird" bracelet designed and created by jeweler Art Smith. The bracelet is composed of a single sheet of copper metal bent into an open-ended oval shape and tapering in the center to create an abstract wing shape. Overlaid on one side is a piece sheet brass in a biomorphic design of two connecting triangular shapes that resemble bird wings or a beak. The brass piece is unpatinated and lacquered. The copper is patinated black underneath the brass, at the ends, and the full interior. The interior also has a soldered piece of flattened copper band for support. The bracelet has one hallmark on the inside, left edge of Smith’s signature [Art Smith].
