Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

This is the Hanging Gardens ring designed and created by Art Smith. The ring has a wide sterling silver band that tapers at the base. The head of the ring is made of three flattened oval discs of sterling silver, stacked on top of one another and decreasing in size to the top. At the top is a carnelian cabochon in a sterling silver bezel. The polished and oval-shaped brownish-red gemstone is set horizontally across the stacked discs, perpendicular to the finger when worn. The ring has one hallmark on the interior of the band, Smith’s signature [Art Smith].
