Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

An etching with an abstract design. The bottom and left side are mostly shaded in. The center has mostly swirling, curved forms with elements of a face and stumbling figure emerging at the bottom right. Two wide bands curve across the center of the print from the upper left corner to just below the upper right corner. At left, two narrow triangles form upright points while, in the background, wider triangular forms suggest an abstract landscape of rolling hills. The title [The Way to the Cross] is written in pencil at the bottom left corner with [a/p] at the bottom center. The print is signed on the bottom right corner in pencil: [James L. Wells ‘48].
