Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

The Bejeweled necklace by Art Smith. The necklace has a large collar loop and a smaller drop loop with a centered pendant at the bottom. The necklace is primarily constructed with four connected J-curved sterling silver pieces and accented with four large, lapis lazuli, turquoise, and sodalite cabochons of varying sizes, shapes, thicknesses, and natural inclusions. The body of each of the J-curved sterling silver pieces are thick tubular wires that have been hammered flat at the ends into wishbone shapes. The collar of the necklace is formed from two, large, J-curved sterling silver pieces connected by single jump ring on the proper left side and by a turquoise cabochon clasp that sits just below the collar bone on the proper right side.
