Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A large oil painting with three horizontal bands of color stacked red, black, and green, resembling the pan-African or Afro-American flag. The top band, in shades of red, depicts a cloud-streaked sky. Within the center black band are depicted ghostly figures, some with raised fists, others with raised guns silhouetted against the red sky. In the bottom band, shades of green form a grassy field. The title, artist, and date are written by hand on the center of the canvas verso as well as the upper stretcher bar.
