Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A brass cuff with a three-hole design by Art Smith; designed circa 1948 and made between 1948 and 1979. The cuff is made from a sheet of copper bent into a semi-circle to wrap around the wrist, flaring slightly to fit as it goes up the arm. At the top are three, horseshoe-shaped openings cut out of the sheet. The edges of the holes are textured, and each is surrounded by a textured, decorative band applied to the top of the copper sheet. The textured and recessed areas of the design are patinated black on the exterior. The entirety of the interior is patinated or coated black. The [Art Smith] signature hallmark is stamped into one end of the interior.
