Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A modernist copper cuff bracelet made by Art Smith. The bracelet is composed from a single sheet of copper with an organic wave shaped design and an abstract oval cut out with a raised edge on the front. The edge of the cut out and the edges of the bracelet are a bright copper, with an area of patinated black also in an organic wave design. The cuff is nearly cylindrical shape with an opening at the back to fit around the wrist. There are some small scuffs and areas of discoloration on the exterior of the cuff. The interior of the cuff is coated in a black waxy material and the entire piece appears to have a lacquer coating. Stamped into the interior is Smith's signature hallmark: [Art Smith].
