This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

An abstract acrylic painting by Claude Lawrence, with heavy use of magenta, pink, beige and blue hues. Outlined in black and set against an off-white background, the painting features multiple shades of red at the center, surrounded by deeper magenta-hued shapes above, and a mass of grey to the right. Three linear swaths of blue run along the bottom edge and up along the right-hand side of the painting. The artist has signed the recto in the lower right-hand corner [C Lawrence] in black paint. The verso has an inscription of [PIRAteS] on the right-hand side. Beneath this inscription, there is another inscription which reads, [Do it! Nellie] which is crossed through.
