A first edition hardcover copy of Annie Allen by Gwendolyn Brooks, with printed dust jacket; it is 60 pages in length. The book details different aspects of Annie's (a young African American girl) interior and exterior life as she matures into womanhood. The dust jacket is a dark russet shade with a large salmon-colored central rectangle on the front cover. Within the rectangle are eight lines of white and russet text of varying sizes [Annie /Allen / POEMS BY / Gwendolyn Brooks / Author of A STREET IN BRONZEVILLE / "She is mature in her craft . . . She is / distinctive as an artist." / -Rackham Holt]. Along the bottom in the center of the russet border is additional text in white [HARPER & BROTHERS]. On the back of the dust jacket is an illustration of the author.
