This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A black-and-white gelatin silver print of an unidentified barber standing in the interior of the Baltimore Barbershop. He is standing with his proper left side facing the camera and has both of his hands resting on a wood cabinet, which sits in front of large windows along the front of the shop. He is also wearing a watch on his left arm and glasses. The shop's door stands open, but the screen door is closed. The light from the window causes the signs on the window to appear in shadow across the man's jacket and the interior walls. [BALTIMORE / BAR SHO] is visible at the lower right of the image. An adhesive label on the verso has the photographer's printed name and contact information as well as [Baltimore Barbershop - 1970] in bold italicized text and the photographer's signature [Don Thompson 2014] in graphite.
