This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
Oil painting of a palm tree along a shoreline in low light. The painting (a) has low green grasses covering the foreground up to the body of water. There is a palm tree with a slightly curved trunk in the center of the image. The right side has green leafy tree branches from out of the frame. The long branches at the top partially obscure the sun. There is soft white light shining through the tree cover. The sun is reflected on the water below. The light blue water blends into the horizon and the hazy blue sky. The painting is signed in the bottom right. The wooden frame (b) is made from repurposed construction materials. The frame has a white base layer. The upper edge of the frame has another layer of gold-colored paint. There are streaks of white paint on the reverse. The textured board is secured with small nails.
