Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

This drawing depicts a man using a jackhammer. He stands behind the tool, with both hands, wearing gloves, grasping the handle. His shoulders are hunched and his head is bowed. He wears a light colored shirt with the sleeves rolled up above the elbow, and dark pants. He has a helmet or close fitting cap on his head. Only the lower portion of his face is visible. Viewed slightly from below, he has a monumental aspect. Behind him to his right another worker is visible, dressed similarly and also using a jackhammer. Sections of the image are missing as the paper is deteriorating badly.
