Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A pair of clear plastic peep toe mules with rhinestones. The shoe vamp is made from one panel of clear plastic with a central ovoid plastic decoration. Clear glass rhinestones are glued on the central ovoid in an abstract vine-like formation. Rhinestones are also arranged at the back of the clear Lucite heel in a similar, yet larger vine-like style. Each Lucite heel is attached to the outer sole of the shoe with several metal screws. A leather heel cap is also screwed to the bottom of the heel. The mules feature an elasticized inner sole made from three panels of gray/silver leather with a section of 1” long elastic banding in between. Below the leather sole layer is a layer of paper and below that is a hardened silver vinyl layer. Hardened leather creates the outer sole.
