A one-and three-quarter inch synthetic petersham ribbon is sewn to the bottom of the crown at the interior. The hat is lined with black synthetic net, black synthetic buckram is placed between the net and red exterior fabric. A thin black elastic band is channeled through the sides of the hat along the petersham ribbon.
