Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A geometric green, black, and tan striped wax print shirt (a) and fabric length (b). The midi-length shirt is made from cotton and features an all-over geometric faux African wax print (possibly a roller print) with black, green, white, red, and tan stripes of varying widths. The black stripes are solid and outlined with thin, solid white stripes. The red, green, and tan stripes contain variations of a dot patterns and diamond motifs. The front of the shirt is composed to three panels of fabric – one central panel and two side panels that create the flair. There is a low standing band collar made from one panel of printed cotton that is self-faced and a layer of interfacing in between both layers of cotton. The shirt secures under the collar with three black metal snaps on a 16” long placket.
