A pink silk dupion draped turban with fringe. The base of the hat is made of double-layered nylon blocked into shape with silk dupion draped and hand-stitched to the exterior. Cotton organdie is used to back the silk dupion and is attached with hand-stitching. Fringe constructed from self-fabric silk dupion is at the top of the crown. A strip of buckram is placed at hat's interior at the top of the crown. The silk dupion is folded and tacked to the interior with basting stitches. A pink rayon petersham ribbon is hand stitched to the inside of the hat. A label is sewn to the center back of the hat along the petersham ribbon that reads [Macy’s Little Shop]. This project received Federal support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool, administered by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
