Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A pair of red, blue, and yellow plaid pants with an attached sash. Each pant leg is two panels of plaid cotton fabric sewn together at the inner and outer leg seams. The pants are sewn to a 2” wide gathered waistband that has a panel of elastic inside. A 93” long sash of matching cotton fabric is pleated and sewn to the outer proper right pant leg seam, taking up about 24.5” of it. There are two 6.5” inseam pockets – one at each hip. Near the center of the sash is a section that rests on the shoulder. It has been pleated and hand sewn into place. The construction of the back of the pants mirrors the front. A black fabric tag sewn to the back interior waist reads [JON WEBB / MEN] in gray text. All interior seams are machine overlock stitched.
