Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A pink convertible clutch with a studded clasp once owned by Precola Devore Pares. The body of the clutch is made from light pink synthetic faille material, and it has a trapezoidal shape that’s wider at the bottom. There is a layer of cardboard stiffiner just under the layer of pink synthetic faille. The purse fastens with a silver metal frame that has a decorative rhinestone clasp decoration at the center with a 1” x .75” metal pull. The pull resembles thin ropes that surround three clear glass faceted rhinestones that are set in the metal. It lifts and unclasps the frame of the bag. Attached to the clutch at the bag’s interior is a 10.5” long silver snake chain strap, which can be hidden inside the bag. There is a width-wise seam across the bottom, and the inside is lined with a panel of maroon synthetic plain weave fabric. There is no label.
