Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A pair of metallic open-toed shoes with gold straps. The sandals have a peep-toe vamp covered in rose gold colored synthetic material that has an allover floral and acanthus leaf pattern in gold metallic thread. Each leather heel is covered with the same rose gold colored synthetic fabric – it’s most likely adhered into place. There are decorative cut outs at the top of vamp, bordered with .25” wide gold covered leather that transitions into ankle straps and intertwine over the top of the foot. Each strap has five punched adjustment holes and secures with a metal buckle embellished with four small yellow stones. The gold insole of each shoe is made from synthetic material imprinted with a leather grain texture and the outer soles are made from a panel of hardened leather. The insoles have been adhered into place. Each Spanish heel has a leather heel cap that’s secured into place with three nails.
