Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A pair of red suede pumps with gold heels. The base of the shoe is made from red suede and the shoe’s counter and heel are covered in gold leather, which is most likely adhered into place. Gold leather also binds the topline. The interior of each shoe is lined with tan colored cotton canvas twill. Beige leather is sewn at the back of each shoe’s interior, over the cotton canvas twill layer. There is an additional panel of tan leather suede at the interior counter. One panel of hardened leather creates each outsole and each heel cap. The heel caps are attached to the heels with three metal nails. At the insole arch for both shoes is [E. INTILE / FLORIDA 58688 / B.S. AIRES / U.T. 31-0324 / INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA] in gold lettering.
